Introduction
Long ago, the children of Altador played with wild Yooyus that roamed outside the city. Their games were the basis for Yooyuball, now the official sport of Altador. When the Darkest Faerie was defeated and the kingdom of Altador rejoined the rest of Neopia, its citizens were happy to share their favourite sport with the outside world. Teams soon sprang up in every land, and in Year 8, the first Altador Cup was held.
Disasters
In Year 9, the Kreludor team's gravity generator failed, rendering the team unfit for the tournament until they had retrained with Neopian gravity. In Year 10, the Kiko Lake team never made it to Altador, thanks to a rockslide on their route. Then in Year 11, King Hagan stunned Yooyuball fans when he banned Brightvale from participating until the kingdom's study habits improved.
These days, the Altador Cup is a big event, with thousands of fans pouring into the Colosseum for each game. Even King Altador himself takes pride in cheering on his team. Top players have been known to wear disguises in public when their popularity gets too overwhelming.
As if the game of Yooyuball wasn't enough, there are plenty of other activities going on, too. Just outside the stadium, a Slushie Slinger waits at every concession stand, ready to serve ice-cold beverages to thirsty fans. During the games, excited supporters often hold battles to see who can really Make Some Noise for their teams, with the same champion every year... a certain blue Techo Fanatic. Between games, official players can be observed on the practice fields, scoring goals in a Shootout Showdown against the goalie. There's never a dull moment at the Altador Cup!
Rules Committee
The Altador Cup Committee is a highly respected group of officials who carefully examine each play, making sure that the rules of Yooyuball are strictly adhered to. If anyone feels that an issue pertaining to the Altador Cup tournament needs to be reviewed, a petition can be filed, and the committee will then decide whether or not to rule on the matter.
In the past, matters brought before the Altador Cup Committee have ranged from allegations of biased Yooyus to claims of inappropriate play by tournament team members. Once both sides of the issue are heard, the committee gathers in its private chambers to discuss the situation. Arguments are made, and then the committee votes and settles on an appropriate course of action.
While some might feel that they are too strict, the fact is that the committee's decisions play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the game. Though there have been times when popular opinion has been against the committee or one of its decisions, nobody doubts that the committee members' actions are always motivated by a desire to protect the game's best interests.
The three highly respected Altadorians who make up the Altador Cup Rules Committee have been entrusted with the duty of ensuring that the rules of Yooyuball are being followed properly. Though their decisions have occasionally been unpopular, everyone can agree that the Rules Committee's dedication to their task makes the Altador Cup more fun and more fair for all those who participate. It is due to their hard work that the Altador Cup runs smoothly year after year and remains Neopia's most celebrated sporting event.

Tournament Format
Altador Cup I (Single Elimination)
The Altador Cup Tournament consists of sixteen teams representing the lands of Neopia. Tournament play is single-elimination, which means that the team that wins a match moves on to the next round, while the team that loses must pack their bags and head home. In the knock-out round, the sixteen teams will be randomly seeded and matched up. After the eight losing teams are eliminated, the eight winning teams will again be randomly matched up and move on to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, four more teams will be sent home, while the remaining four will head to the semifinals. Semifinal play will determine which two teams will battle it out in the final match. Which Neopian team will emerge victorious?
Altador Cup II (Double Round Robin with Finals)
The Altador Cup Tournament consists of sixteen teams representing the lands of Neopia. Those of you who participated in last year's Altador Cup will note that this year's tournament structure has changed a little bit. So that all of the teams have more opportunities to demonstrate their skill, tournament play is "double round robin," which means that your team will play every other team twice.
Each day, your team faces a new opponent, and it is up to you to contribute as much as you can by playing not only Yooyuball, but also Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. Your results in each daily match-up, evaluated separately for each of the three games, contribute to your team's overall standing in the tournament.
At the conclusion of the double round robin phase, the four best-performing teams will advance to the final matches that will determine who will reign supreme in this year's Altador Cup. The top two teams will meet in a final showdown for first place, and the teams that ranked third and fourth in the double round robin phase will battle for third place.
Altador Cup III (Double Round Robin with Finals)
The Altador Cup tournament pits 16 teams, representing the lands of Neopia, against each other. Tournament play is "double round robin," which means that each team will play each of the other fifteen competing teams twice.
Please remember to help your team win all 3 daily match-ups.
At the conclusion of the double round robin phase, all 16 teams will move on to take part in the four-day finals phase, which will consist of a playoff match-up and a final match-up. Each finals phase match-up lasts for two days. Within each four-team rank grouping (1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16), the highest and lowest ranked teams will play against each other, while the second and third ranked teams will also pair off, with the winners of each match-up then facing off for first place of that group, and the losers facing off for third place of that group.
The four leading teams overall will still be in contention for a place on the Altador Cup winners' pedestal, but now, a fourth place team could sneak to the top on two wins, and emerge victorious!

Altador Cup VII (Four Round Brackets)
This year, the Altador Cup tournament once again pits 18 teams, representing the lands of Neopia, against each other. A few teams have had some significant roster shake-ups since the last tournament, so keep an eye on them!
Tournament play consists of four rounds, in which the teams are randomly grouped into three brackets. Each team plays the others in their bracket once during the round, and points are awarded based on the bracket's standings at round's end. At the end of the tourney, the points that teams earned during each round are added up and then the totals are used for the final standings.
As the tournament advances, each round will be worth more than the round that preceded it. Therefore, even if teams get off to a rocky start, they'll still be able to catch up by closing strong.
In the event that two or more teams finish Round Four with the same number of points and in contention for one of the Altador Cup's top three slots, then a one-day tiebreaker will be played to determine tournament's final standings.
If two teams wind up in a tie, then they will play each other. If three teams end up tied, then all three will play against the practice team. In the event of a four-way tie, the teams will be paired off and the winners of the tiebreaker matches will received the top two slots (the higher of the two placing highest), while the losing teams will get the next two positions (the lowest scoring of the duo finishing fourth out of four teams).
Players will still be able to increase their rank and earn Prize Shop points while playing in a tiebreaker match. Those players whose teams are not playing in a tiebreaker will also be able to continue improving their rank and earning Prize Shop points by playing in practice matches.
Each day, your team will face a new opponent. You must contribute as much as you can to your team by playing not only Yooyuball, but also Slushie Slinger, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown.
At random points during the tournament, one of the tournament's four activities/games may enter bonus mode. When that happens, the game will help out your team more with a greater payout. Bear in mind, though, that the neopoint payout for playing the game will remain the same.
Your results in each daily match-up contribute to your team's overall standing in the tournament. Please remember to help your team win all four daily match-ups.
